Founded in 1952 by Henry “Woogie” Thompson, The Woogie Company has grown into a multifaceted entertainment powerhouse from a small jukebox manufacturer in Hoboken, New Jersey. For over seven decades, we’ve been shaping the way America experiences music, film, and popular culture.
Our Story
The Woogie Company’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and entertainment’s power to unite people. After returning from World War II, Henry Thompson found healing in the rhythms of boogie-woogie and blues. Inspired by the jukeboxes he encountered during his service, Henry set out to create machines that would bring the joy of music to every corner of America.
With the support of his wife, Mary Lou – a talented musician from the heart of Texas – Henry launched the first Woogie Jukebox in 1952. Despite initial setbacks, the Thompsons’ commitment to quality sound and diverse music selection soon set Woogie Jukeboxes apart.
Innovation and Growth
As rock ‘n’ roll exploded onto the scene, The Woogie Company was perfectly positioned to ride the wave of musical revolution. Our jukeboxes became gathering points in diners, bars, and social clubs nationwide, earning us the moniker “The Soundtrack of America.”
In 1959, just before the birth of Motown, we expanded into music production with the launch of Woogie Records. This move cemented our place in the industry, allowing us to not just play the hits, but help create them.
Recognizing the powerful synergy between music and visual storytelling, we ventured into film production in the 1960s. This expansion marked our evolution into a full-fledged entertainment company, capable of creating and distributing content across multiple media.
